Week 27: Day 4
As we end our dive into chapter 15 of Exodus, Naomi reflects on the Israelite worship of God and how we might worship God for the things he's done in our lives.
In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia. The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away; terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone – until your people pass by, Lord, until the people you bought pass by. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance – the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.
‘The Lord reigns for ever and ever.’
Intro: Hi guys, welcome to Orbit. I’m Naomi, and I’m a pastor based at SAINT, in East London. I’ve loved journeying through Exodus, and today we’ll be looking at Exodus 15:13-14 and 16-18.
Bible: So why don’t we read today’s passage, pray together, and talk about one thing we can do?
Thoughts: We pick up this passage midway through a celebration song that Moses has written! I don’t know if you’ve ever been to a football match, but football fans love a good chant. Sometimes they’re for when the opposition miss, sometimes they’re for their favourite players. But the best ones are always for the moments of absolute jubilation when they win or score a goal!
Well this is just like that! God scored the ultimate win! He DID what he said he would – he rescued the Israelites from the captors and saved the day! So Moses and his sister Miriam lead the celebrations of all that God has done!
They sing of His unfailing love, another word for that is mercy. They sing that he is a god who rescues and redeems, who guides and protects us. I wonder if those words mean much to you today.
God wants to guide you, he wants to show you things that will encourage you and help you to grow into the best version of yourself that you can be.
This interesting phrase comes up a couple times that God will guide you “to your holy dwelling,” that God ultimately desires you to live with him. To be with him.
The ultimate prize in this life isn’t money or nice clothes, because instead of just living in fancy temples or pretty buildings, God has chosen to dwell or live amongst his people. And so as they celebrate all the good that god has done, the way he has provided for people, they note that god has a plan to be with us.
God wants to live with you. He wants to be with you. He wants to speak you, so would you let him in?
Prayer: Why don’t we pray? God I thank you that you want to come into my life, today I pray that you would make yourself at home in me. I pray that I would hear your voice, that I would follow where you lead, and grow into who you have made me to be. In Jesus name in pray, amen.
Challenge: This passage was full of thanks so today let’s set aside time to tell God just what we’re thankful for. Often when we do this, we see how much he’s been doing in our lives and it really encourages us to keep going. So maybe you want to sit in silence and think about it, or maybe you want to draw up a list, whatever works for you, why not set aside some time to tell God what you’re grateful for!
Outro: Thanks for listening, I’ll be back again tomorrow with another Orbit.
