Week 10: Day 4

In today's Orbit reflection, Robin looks at Daniel 4:29-30 and asks: how is your relationship with God?

Daniel 4:29-30

Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

Intro: Hey guys, and welcome to Orbit, I hope you’re doing well, if I haven’t met you yet, well my name is Robin and it’s great to have you with us today. This is our fourth session, we’ve currently looked at what it looks like to have a strong faith, how we can have good expectations of what God can do in our lives today, and yesterday we looked at hearing from God. Today we continue in the same book and chapter as yesterday.

Bible: Today's reading comes from Daniel 4:29-30.

Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

Thoughts:

Now each day I start by asking you a question, and today I want to ask you: How is your relationship with God?

Now after everything we have explored and read this week happening in Daniel, the king Nebuchadnezzar still doesn’t get it, and he doesn’t listen to Daniel’s interpretation of the dream he’s had. The king still chooses lives in a sinful way and is focused on his own glory, rather that giving the glory to God

I ask you this question ‘how is your relationship with God?’ because as many of you may know, there’s this famous quote and as Christians we love to use it… And the quote is this: ‘Christianity isn’t a religion it’s a relationship’

I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but it’s a great quote that gets the point across that we can actually get to know this Jesus that we believe in.However, the other side to this quote is that, because it’s a relationship it requires effort from both parties.

And here with Nebuchadnezzar, God has displayed his wonder through the fiery furnace and he’s even spoken to Nebuchadnezzar in a dream, but Nebuchadnezzar is more focused on himself and on pleasing God. “It’s all about my kingdom and my majesty.”

When it comes to us, God has already displayed his intention in the relationship we have with him. He has sent his one and only son to die for us, and so that we can be with him, and draw near to him. But it’s on us respond to that, it’s on us to make time to spend with God, it’s on us to make the effort in getting to know God.

You see this relationship we can have with Jesus, he makes it all about us, and it’s on us to make it all about Him, to give him praise and glory. Not to live how king Nebuchadnezzar does, walking in pride, but we are to walk in praise. In praise of the God who longs to have a relationship with us.

Challenge: I wonder if today you can carve out some time to make the relationship you have with Jesus a healthy one… and we can do that by spending some uninterrupted time in worship, put on a playlist, and have an attitude of praise rather than pride, and to get to know him, to make our lives all about him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are good and, in your goodness, you meet with us. I thank you that you are a personal God, who longs to have a relationship with each and every one of us. And as we walk through this day, may we become more aware of your presence around us, and may we in return in praise and glorify you. Amen.

Outro: That's it for today's Orbit. Thanks so much for joining us - we'll be back with another reflection tomorrow.
